What to look for

For stick welding, look at the maximum amperage (it sets the electrode size and thickness you can run), the duty cycle at that amperage, and whether it supports the electrodes you use — some need extra open-circuit voltage or an arc-force/hot-start feature to run basic 7018 rods smoothly. Small single-phase inverters cover most repair and light-fabrication needs; heavier continuous work wants a higher duty cycle or three-phase.
