Run mild-steel wire under an argon/CO2 mix (typically 95/5) for a stable arc and clean bead; straight CO2 gives deeper penetration but more spatter. Use 0.6-0.8mm for thin sheet and car panels, 1.0mm for heavier plate, and keep the spool dry — a rusty or contaminated wire feeds badly and pits the weld.
