Flux Core Wire

What to look for

Flux-core wire carries its own shielding, so it works in wind where gas-shielded MIG fails — but remember to switch your machine to DCEN (electrode negative) polarity, the reverse of solid wire. Expect more slag to chip and a slightly rougher bead, and choose it mainly for site work, repairs and thicker steel where portability beats finish.
