What to look for

Choose cobalt (HSS-Co) bits for stainless and hard, work-hardening metals where standard HSS jobber bits burn and blunt. Drill the correct tapping-size hole before threading, use plenty of cutting fluid, and back the tap off regularly to clear swarf — rushing a tap or skipping lubricant is the fast route to a snapped tap in the workpiece.
