What to look for

Size a compressor by the air demand (CFM or l/min) of your thirstiest tool plus headroom, not just tank size — a big tank buys you time, but a die grinder or sander that outstrips the pump will always run out of air. Belt-drive and screw compressors run cooler and quieter for continuous duty; direct-drive suits intermittent use, and check the supply phase and whether you need a receiver-mounted or standalone unit.
